Sirianni said the job would be attractive to top coaching candidates because of the level of talent.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wants the Eagles’ offense to evolve with a new offensive coordinator (OC).
The Eagles fired offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo on Jan. 13 after a season in which the Super Bowl LIX champions struggled mightily on that side of the ball. At his end-of-year press conference with general manager Howie Roseman, Sirianni outlined his goals for the new OC and the team going into 2026.
“Everything that I do and every decision I have to make, I have to do that—just like Howie does, just like [owner Jeffrey] Lurie does—with the intent of being the best thing for the football team,” Sirianni said. “I love Kevin and everything that he has provided to this coaching staff for his five years here, big reason why we’ve won a lot of football games. But at this particular point, I just felt like that’s what I needed to do to be the best thing for the football team.”

The Eagles finished 24th in the NFL in total offense under Patullo in 2025, a sharp decline from their Super Bowl run last season, when they ranked 8th under then-OC Kellen Moore.
Patullo’s offense was criticized all season for being predictable and inefficient. The criticisms came to a head against the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 11. According to ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky, the Eagles ran 10 plays on their final drive Sunday, four of which were either the same play or another play from earlier in the drive. They ran the “four verticals” concept out of a basic alignment three times on that drive.
Sirianni was asked what qualities he wants to see in his next OC.
“You always want someone that has a great vision, and great conviction of things that they believe in and what they want to do,” he responded.
“You always want to have somebody that has the players on their mind first … is able to coach fundamentals well to help the players get better, because I believe in that; that can connect with guys, because I believe in that; that has the mental toughness, because I believe in that … it’s about finding the guy that best fits us, that gives us the best chance to get back to the top of the mountain where we we ultimately want to go.”
Sirianni said the job would be attractive to top coaching candidates because of the level of talent: a former Super Bowl MVP in quarterback Jalen Hurts; NFL Offensive Player of the Year in running back Saquon Barkley; three-time All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown; and a six-time Pro Bowler in right tackle Lane Johnson.
The job would also provide the OC with opportunities. Three of the Eagles’ previous coordinators have become head coaches: Moore became head coach of the New Orleans Saints this year, and after the Eagles went to Super Bowl LVII in 2022, offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon won head coaching jobs with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.
Whoever the next offensive coordinator is, Sirianni wants to maximize the offense’s potential.
“You’re looking to continue to evolve as an offense, and I’m looking to bring in the guy that’s going to best help us do that,” he said.
“I think that there are many different ways to be successful on offense, and everybody has different styles, everybody has different players … there’s a lot of different ways to do it, and that’s not only as an offensive coordinator, but a defensive coordinator, a wide receiver coach, a defensive line coach, a head coach.”
Because of their struggles, Sirianni eventually had to assume a larger role in the offensive game plan at the end of the season. As head coach, he obviously has oversight over the offense, but he said he wants to focus on being the head coach because that is what he thinks is best for the team.
Whether the next OC retains the team’s current position coaches, Sirianni had high praise for them, noting they coached the team to many wins, including last year’s Super Bowl run. Many of the coaches have been together since Sirianni became head coach in 2021, and even before. But it also means those coaches are responsible for the struggles this season.
He entertained the possibility of an internal promotion and said he does his best to develop both coaches and players, but the team is in “win now” mode, so that would be his focus in selecting a head coach.
